Press release: Positive outcome for financial year 2022

March 2023 - Increased sales, anniversary, project successes: 2022 was yet another positive financial year for Hockenheim-based RATEC GmbH. Not least because of the trade fairs that took place once again, including most notably bauma in Munich, an optimistic signal was sent to employees and customers after three years of pandemic.

With the continuation of major projects, RATEC also further strengthened its international position. And there is also positive news to report from RATEC Asia: The Asian subsidiary celebrated its fifth anniversary in 2022.

The conclusion after three years of pandemic clearly demonstrates that RATEC has managed to keep pace with the challenges it has faced in recent years. Despite muted expectations, the Hockenheim-based company achieved a strong increase in sales in the 2022 financial year. The export share rose from 72 percent in the previous year to 83 percent and “is now back at a level similar to what we had before the Corona pandemic”, says Jörg Reymann, Managing Director of RATEC GmbH. According to Reymann, the increase in exports to countries outside Europe also contributed to this development, a metric that had declined sharply in the pandemic years, primarily due to the Corona-related travel restrictions.

Project highlights 2022

A new module production for bathroom pods in the Philippines was one of the project successes last year. Four moulds from the RATEC 3D mould construction kit were installed there, among other things. RATEC Asia supported the project with production planning and element drawings.

The demand for 3D moulds for the production of transformer station structures was also high in 2022. A total of four new moulds were delivered to customers in Germany and Europe. The modular principle was further developed with the goal of optimizing the balance between formwork variability and retooling times.

Nevertheless, as always, the main focus was on magnetic formwork technology. Here, the switchable shuttering magnets with their wide range of accessories remained among the most popular products.

But customer-specific configured steel formwork designed for robotic operation in automated circulation systems also accounted for a significant share of demand.

In addition, the trend in product development has increasingly been towards sustainability and material savings. Reymann commented, “We are becoming increasingly aware that these two topics are growing in importance for our customers.” With the intensification of the shortage of skilled workers, simple and fast operation in production is currently also in the company’s focus more than ever before.

2022 focused on face-to-face encounters

Other highlights of the 2022 financial year included the trade fairs that were once again held with the public in attendance. First and foremost: bauma, which was again held in Munich in October 2022. "It was difficult for us to predict whether enough visitors would come, especially since bauma was held in October and not in April when it is usually held”, explains Jörg Reymann. But the anxiety was worth it: “bauma was a complete success and showed that personal impressions and encounters continue to be very important”. Among the RATEC exhibits were many new developments and innovations from magnetic formwork technology as well as the inner core of the flexible 3D mould kit based on the model of the one installed in the Philippines.

Asia also on the upswing

Last but not least, there were also positive developments to report from within the company: The RATEC Asia Summit, for example, was held again in Manila in 2022 after a forced break due to Corona. This time, the fully booked event was entitled “Better ideas in precast and modular construction”. It featured a line-up of top-class speakers, all proven experts from the construction and supply industry in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

In February 2022, the RATEC Asia subsidiary also celebrated its fifth anniversary. The company, which started as a joint venture, is now independent and moved into new offices and a new showroom in Singapore last year.

Optimistic start to 2023

“2022 has demonstrated that RATEC continues to expand its international presence while presenting solutions at the highest level”, says Jörg Reymann, continuing, “RATEC looks back on a successful year and is full of optimism for the year ahead”.
